Wedding Preps: Hiring Suppliers

As I've mentioned in my previous post, Franco and I are engaged. Many have been asking me when the wedding is but we don't give out the exact date to everyone but it's next year.

Next year. It seems there's more time left, right? Wrong!

The wedding industry is CUHRAZY. You gotta book as soon as you can because good suppliers get booked fast. This is why I decided to attend wedding expos because I want to see all my options first. Oh my gosh there are so many options and suppliers! I was literally dizzy after one afternoon at SMX Convention Center. Most suppliers offer discounts and freebies when you book on the spot, which is nice, but if you are like me, it made me crazy. I need to compare suppliers first, think thoroughly, re-evaluate my decision, and prepare the money. It was such a hard task plus I was attending expos without Franco. I had to reecho everything to him. I took photos and videos and sent him everything I liked (Unfortunately not all suppliers will allow you to take photos.). He was shocked with the multitude of options, too. I left the first expo with no suppliers booked.

The next one I went to, I had a strategy. I downloaded their suppliers list days before, checked out their work online, and highlighted the ones I liked. This way I won't be going around the whole expo like a lost puppy. This method helped me immensely and despite the PICC tent being so hot and crowded, I was not overwhelmed by the choices. I was able to book one supplier from that expo!

Hiring suppliers for your wedding is not an easy task. I want quality work, pleasant attitude, and within my budget. Some suppliers are really good but their asking price is too high or they're very snooty. Tip to suppliers: Be kind, be nice, be approachable. Answer queries timely. Follow up. When I'm trying to book a meeting with a supplier and they're pahabol, wala ayoko na. Remember, I'm the customer here. I will be paying you a lot of my hard-earned money so please, suppliers, be nice and accommodating.

I am almost done with booking suppliers. Here's my current #FrancoJeanFinally Team.

Engaged!

Yes, I said Yes!

For those who do not know, I have been with this wonderful man for ten years. Yes, you read that right, ten freaking years. Don't get me wrong, those ten years were not all happy perfect moments. There were ups and downs but that's the beauty of it. I can honestly say that this is the healthiest relationship I've ever had. I love him so much!

I can go on and on about how wonderful he is but that is not the point of this post. I just wanted to share it to the world and put it here.

Let's Be Real: Envy and Priorities

Let's be real here. Who has never felt envious? I'm not always envious of others but I feel it from time to time and today is one of those days.

I have the usuals. Let me give you a rundown.

  • Material stuff. How come this person has a better car than me? How did that girl acquire so many designer bags when I don't even have one? How come he owns his own condo unit already and I live with my folks? How can this girl afford all the new makeup palettes when mine are all old drugstore brands?

  • Experiencing the world. How come this person has been all over the world when I just travel around Asia? How can she be a citizen of the world while I'm stuck in my hometown? How can she afford to take multiple long leaves at work? How wonderful for her to leave in a posh city across the globe while I'm here, just here.

  • Career and education. I started so young, why am I stuck here? How come younger researchers are doing their PhD already while I'm still meh. My peers are doing their Post Docs while I sit and wait for what exactly? I write down all the names of the people in the meeting I'm in and their all Dr. Something.

  • Family and marriage. My age is barely hanging on the calendar and I'm still not married while people my age are pushing out Baby No. 3. Why are younger people getting married after a 1-year relationship while I'm in a 10-year relationship and we're just chill? How many more times do I have to explain myself why I'm not married yet to family and friends?

Whoa, you might say. But hey this is not everyday occurrence and definitely doesn't occur simultaneously. That would be too crazy! It usually happens when I'm PMS-ing or I'm having a really shitty day at work. Other than these, it's all flowers and rainbows in my garden.

I think what triggers my envies the most is social media. I mean, who posts ugly pictures of themselves in Instagram, right? Everything is beautiful, spic and span, according to plan, and white. Why is everything white??? Tell me!

I was washing my face, getting ready for bed when it hit me. It's all about priorities.

Some people prioritize designer things while others want to spend their hard-earned money on traveling. Other people put their careers on hold and risk it so they can study further. Others prioritize furthering their careers than starting a family. While some, on the other hand, would rather start a loving family.

I often wonder where my money goes and how come I don't have what others have. I finally realized it now. I spend my money on my priority, love. I spend a big chunk of my money going to South Korea and living there. I don't travel much to other countries because every time there is a chance to travel, I always go to Franco. I can't buy a lot of material things because I spend my money on dining out with Franco or my family. I can't afford a condo unit because I bought a pretty car. I chose having a car over having my own place because I love spending time with my family anyways. I'm not doing my PhD yet because Franco and I are taking turns. We have a plan for ourselves and that includes our education and careers. If I move to a posh city across the globe, that would mean I would move farther away from Franco and I don't want that. I'm not yet married because it's not yet my time. There is a perfect time for everything.

I choose love. I will keep choosing love because even if I get the envies from time to time, love is what makes me truly happy. And I will stick with that.

The Sunday Currently Vol. 5

A new week is here! I don't why but I'm quite excited for no apparent reason. I just feel good about the coming days. Does that ever happen to you? I wanna dress better, smile more, and generally be more positive about everything. I love this kind of feeling.

Reading
Marriage-related articles. I'll admit I'm a little paranoid about everything and overthink things. I know someday I will get married, not because I'm engaged but because I want to be married to the man I love someday. With that, I just want to know what I'm getting myself into.  I know, I know, I'm in over my head.

Writing
Next week's to-do list. Surprisingly not a long one

Listening
Acoustic Lounge in Spotify. I listen to Spotify a LOT.

Thinking
About my uncomfortable experience earlier. I was driving earlier to the nail salon and in front of me was a jeepney full of young men. They were all gawking and teasing! And how could I not look at them? I was driving and they were in front. Ugh. I felt so uneasy. It was like being catcalled. Why do men have to do this?

Smelling
Fresh nail polish smell. Are you familiar with that?

Wishing
I can save enough extra cash to visit Dr. Aivee Teo. I wanna have artista derma experience. I've always been wondering if they all got lucky in the gene pool or doctors made them look like that.

Hoping
For less rain because I want to get my car washed properly.

Wearing
Bed attire aka as old ratty clothes

Loving
The weather! I know I'm hoping for less rain (it's for my car) but I love the cool winds here in the probinsya! A real sweater/cuddle weather!

Wanting
The new Archie! Where can I get one and are there still available copies? huhu

Needing
Heeled sandals. Not for the rainy weather but for adulthood. All I have are flats, all kinds of them. I need sexy footwear.

Feeling
Happy and sleepy but I know I will still read my night away. Why don't I just sleep when I feel sleepy? Why do I fight it then regret the next day? Why do I never learn?

I'm also feeling excited for the long weekend though I don't have a plan yet. What are your plans?

How was your weekend? Good luck on the coming week!

Friday's 10 Happy Things /2/

There's a rainbow always after the rain...LOL

I was sick this week. It was a combination of everything. I felt very sorry for my family because I'm a terrible patient. I moan and groan. Thanks to my Mom and sister for taking good care of me.

  • 1. I was sick half of the week and recovered before the week ended!

  • 2. And because I was sick, I was at home and caught up on my sleep, big time. I hibernated.

  • 3. It was raining while I was sleeping. How marvelous this feels!

  • 4. I ate a LOT of fruits this week because I was nursing myself back to health.

  • 5. This may not seem very good to you, but I lost a pound because of this sickness. *peace*

  • 6. I met up with Dette and Chester. I haven't seen them since forever and I missed them! More please! Let's be healthy and sexy together. LOL

  • 7. Speaking of meet ups, I met Monica, too! This happened last week but let's count it since she's seldom in the country. We had coffee, a great conversation, and some really good laughs.

  • 8. Investment talks with banks. I'm planning my future wisely. I feel like such a grownup.

  • 9. The first ever Palay-Isipan Quiz Contest was a success!

  • 10. Work dinner events. I don't really work, I just attend, chat, eat, and drink. Plus, it's always free!

See, even if I was sick, the week wasn't so bad at all. How about you? How was your week?

Happy weekend!

The Sunday Currently Vol. 4

It's technically not Sunday but whatever, it's still Sunday somewhere.

Reading
Work emails. I was away for a week and I try not to open work emails when I'm not at work. Do you open work emails any where, any time? I'm backlogged yet distracted.

Writing
I'm working on my to-do list because vacation tends to make my mind forget of my duties and responsibilities.

Listening
To the annoying buzzing sound of the centralized aircon. I wish I have my earpods, which were stolen ggrrrrr, so I can listen to music while at work. Now I'm reminded I need to buy new earpods.

Thinking
Metro Manila looks so depressing. I don't know if it's my mood but it looked so ugly to me yesterday. I'm also thinking, more on contemplating, if I can quit my current job and do other things that will make me happier. Not necessarily a new job but I need something happier than this. I need a reason for me to wake up in the mornings and jump out of bed with joy. Things are so blah with my current situation. I need something new.

Smelling
Loveswept by Philosphy because I'm wearing it

Wishing
I'm in South Korea with Franco. I just got back yesterday and I already want to fly back to him. I'm wondering if it's really worth to stay here. I mean, what's the point?

Hoping
I can finish this week without punching someone on the face. There is this very annoying person and I'm like ugh.

Wearing
My "uniform" -- black (or white) tee and jeans

Loving
My nieces! Seriously, they are the main reason I smile and laugh. They bring so much joy and love in my life.

Wanting
More money. More money, more problems? Nah. More like, no money, more unpaid bills.

Needing
To get a massage or something because obviously this Monday hasn't been very nice to me.

Feeling
Happy, lonely, and annoyed all at the same time. I'm so happy I got to spend time with Franco but bummed that we have to part ways again. I'm happy I have a job but annoyed at some stuff as well. I'm in an emotional rollercoaster OMG. I just can't with my emotions.

How was your long weekend?

Good luck on the coming week!

Balik Alindog Program: Hair Cut

Happy hump day! Midweeks are particularly dull so I decided to do something fun yesterday.

I was browsing through the TV channels a few weeks ago when I saw Joey Mead King in the latest Asia's Next Top Model. I don't watch the show because the contestants are boring (read: not as obnoxious and ghetto as Tyra's girls HAHAHA) and I dislike Georgina Wilson. She looks and sounds so fake. However, Joey, I like. I also love the hair she was sporting on the show. It was gorgeous on her! I was with my sister then and she urged me to cut my hair like Joey's. She said it would suit me. I was not sure because I do not have Joey's bone structure but I needed to cut off the dry ends and I wanted to do something badly with it because I was bored. Plus, I'm meeting Franco soon. hihihi E ano kung may MERS? #truelove HAHAHA KAINIS.

This is how I looked before going to the local salon. Not really awful but it was meh.

I wanted the curly parts from my Japan salon experience gone because they were dry and it was in an awkward stage. It was designed to be a wavy lob (long bob). Also, if I let my hair grow longer, I wouldn't have the guts to cut it short because sayang.

So, without further ado, I present my short hair. Ta-dah! HAHAHA As if.

My head feels so light and my hair feels so healthy! My Dad told me this morning during breakfast that I look like my Mom when she was a college student. HAHAHA OK

Overall, I like it. Franco likes it. My family likes it. Weee! Achieve! (Or it's just in my head but whatever. Still weee!)

How's your hump day?

xoxo

Preview x Happy Skin

I love Preview. It's my local go-to magazine for fashion and beauty. I have been reading it for years. I also love Happy Skin. I have been using their products since their first collection. I'm so happy and proud that we can create such good quality makeup with beautiful designs and packaging.

Naturally, when these two collaborated, I was one of the firsts who ordered. No swatches? No reviews? No problem. Gimme that box of lip crayons.
The packaging itself is gorgeous! It's quite genius. It looks like a mini Preview magazine. If you remove the lipstick holder inside, it can serve as a box to store trinkets. I'm using mine as a decoration on my vanity right now.

Inside are two of the most necessary lipstick shades in a woman's life -- nude and red. Classic yet modern at the same time, very Preview. The nude is called Too Cool while the red is Hot Stuff.

I was not concerned with Hot Stuff because I love red lipsticks and have learned how to make them work for me. However, I was a bit apprehensive with Too Cool because it looked too nude to me. I'm on the fair side so this shade might wash me out.
Judging by the swatches on my arm, they look OK to me. The consistency is amazing! It's not like any other matte lipsticks I've tried before. They are so creamy!
Hot Stuff
Hot Stuff is gorgeous! I love vampy reds because it gives you that oomph while still keeping it classy. This is more of a nighttime lipstick but can be worn on daytime, too. I can wear this to events, parties, and any where but my workplace actually. It lights up my face and suits my complexion. I believe this will suit almost all Filipina complexions.
Too Cool
Too Cool, as I expected, is too nude (for the lack of better adjectives) on me. It looks like a concealer on my lips, my sister commented. It's just a teeny weeny bit darker than my skin tone. However, I think I can make this work with some smokey eyes on or mix it up with some of my very bold lip colors. It's gorgeous but not something I would wear everyday.

These matte lip crayons from Happy Skin glide on like butter. I haven't tried using them for hours but I doubt they'll dry my lips. Over all, I'm really happy I bought these. I'm excited to use them!

Happy 20 years, Preview! #IamAPreviewGirl
Congratulations on the matte lip crayons, Happy Skin!

BB Cream Frenzy

It just happened. I have seven (7) BB Creams on my vanity. How did that happen? I was not a big fan of BB creams. I was in South Korea, "home" of BB creams, when they became popular. I wanted to be in so I tried a couple of them, however, Korean brands offer very limited shades. The darkest was still light on me and there was a gray cast. At that time, I was a busy graduate student, who was always in the rice fields. The gray cast looked horrible on me. I think I found one that worked for me but it was not mind blowing, hence I couldn't even remember it.

I then discovered liquid foundations and completely forgot about BB creams. I have been using liquid foundation everyday for the past couple of years. However, what you're thinking is right, liquid foundation is too much for everyday. I needed an alternative. I bought a BB cream.

This is my current pile. My sister gave me one more (not in the photo).

My current stash includes:
7 - Missha M Vita BB Cream Moisture SPF20 PA++ (not in photo) (PHP 499)

Excuse my veiny hand.
They are so different from each other yet I somehow learned how to make them all work for me. It needed a little bit of patience and a lot of practice plus different shades of powder for setting. HAHA

I didn't really intend for this post to be a review but while writing this I thought somebody may want more information about these products. So if you would want to read a review or comparison of these, please let me know. Otherwise, katamad. HAHA

Balik Alindog Program: Yoga

Today I learned that I don't know how to meditate. Surprise, surprise!

I live in the probinsya where, unlike in Metro Manila, we don't have a lot of gym and fitness studios. Fortunately, my workplace encourages health and wellness so we have a nice gym and sports facilities. Aside from that they offer a multitude of fitness classes, one of which is yoga. I attended yoga as much as I can but our teacher left the country and so we were left hanging. Yoga classes were postponed indefinitely and was replaced by Zumba. I have nothing against Zumba I just didn't feel the need to attend.

I was so happy when a co-worker's spouse offered to teach yoga to those interested recently. I immediately responded to her email and enlisted in her class. Then I wondered, why am so interested in yoga when it doesn't really make me lose weight or make my tummy flat? I can do sports or just hit the gym. Why yoga?

I attended the first yoga class today and it hit me while I was in the Sphinx position, I don't know how to relax and meditate. My muscles are always tense and I can't seem to just focus on my breathing and body. I kept opening my eyes and looking at the girls around me. Halfway through the class, I learned that I focus better when I count my breathing. However, as I get deeper and deeper into it, I felt so sleepy. The positions, the breathing, and the meditation are making me sleepy! I don't think it's ok to be sleepy while meditating and doing yoga. Am I right? Help me here, guys.

Anyway, I'm planning on attending her yin yoga classes regularly because I need to learn how to focus better and meditate properly. Plus, stretching my muscles and joints ain't a bad thing to do after a day's work. I'll update you on my progress next time.

Here's to more yoga days! Wish me luck!

Friday's 10 Happy Things /1/

Happy Things! Yaaaay!

In all honesty, I feel like there is nothing to be happy about. Environment at work has been extremely stressful and worrisome. But that is also why I decided to start doing the Friday's 10 Happy Things, to focus on the positives. Thanks, Helga, for inviting me to do this.

This week's 10 happy things:

1.    I did my first long drive (Nueva Ecija to Laguna) successfully! I was so happy I got to pass through SCTEX, NLEX, EDSA, and SLEX in one day/drive. EDSA was the most stressful of them all.
2.    The 23rd Federation of Crop Science Societies of the Philippines Scientific Conference concluded. I was so busy and tired the past weeks especially last week because of this conference. So glad it's over and done now.
3.    I met my dear friend Alma, who is based in New York, during her visit. She is a NICU doctor at Cornell. Hardcore stuff.
4.    I also met Mini and AJ this week. I love meeting old friends! They bring me so much joy.
5.    I watched Crazy Beautiful You (hahaha I know) with my sister and made fun of almost everything in the movie.
6.    I also watched English Only, Please (again with my sister) and had some good laughs as well.
7.    I met my closest work friend, Lot, after two weeks of not seeing each other. We are so clingy to each other. At the restaurant, I also saw Aprille with Carmi and Camille. I told you, I love meeting friends.
8.    I had red velvet cake.
9.    I went shopping at Clark Duty Free, where I find items I rarely find in local supermarkets.
10.  iMessaging like a fool with Franco.

Jean the ENTJ

ENTJ - Extravert, iNtuitive, Thinking, Judging
ENTJs are natural-born leaders. People with this personality type embody the gifts of charisma and confidence, and project authority in a way that draws crowds together behind a common goal. But unlike their Feeling (F) counterpart, ENTJs are characterized by an often ruthless level of rationality, using their drive, determination and sharp minds to achieve whatever end they've set for themselves. Perhaps it is best that they make up only three percent of the population, lest they overwhelm the more timid and sensitive personality types that make up much of the rest of the world - but we have ENTJs to thank for many of the businesses and institutions we take for granted every day. - Source
They say ENTJs are one of the rare personality types, comprising of about 1.8% of the population (Source). I don't completely understand why but I guess it is necessary.

Wondering why I am writing about this? Here are a couple of reasons.

I have been seeing introversion as a cool trend in social media. I mean, seriously? Do I have to lock myself up at home? Do I have to say no to every social invitation that comes my way? Do I have to sit in a corner by myself during a party? Do I have to hate small talk? Do I have to be an introvert to be perceived as a deep and smart young lady? I'm slightly offended that extraverts are portrayed to be loud obnoxious individuals who like to party and waste their time chatting away in large groups of people. People are using the "I'm an introvert" excuse so much lately and it's so annoying. Extraverts, like me, also enjoy  alone time, reading books, and having deep meaningful conversations with a small group or an individual. In fact, I do not just enjoy my alone time, I treasure it. A week without it drains all my energy. I prefer spending weekends alone or with family quietly. I prefer having meals and coffee with a really close friend than a large group of friends/acquaintances. I guess I'm just tired of this introverts-are-much-more-cooler-and-smarter-than-those-noisy-extraverts.

I have nothing against introverts.

I'm often misunderstood. I'm bold, assertive, confident, and most of the time, take charge of matters. Often, I'm the leader. Ever since I was young, this is the case. I hate incompetence. I hate it when tasks are to be assigned and people look away so they won't be called. I hate it when leaders drop and forget everything before the finish line. I hate it when people don't deliver their assigned tasks. I hate it when people pass the buck. I hate inefficiency. Put all of these together and what do I get? I'm labelled as pabida. I always get the remark, "Ikaw na!"

Here's the thing. I have a lot of energy and drive. I used to use those to dance everyday. Now, I use them at work and many socio-civic activities. It drives me insane when there is nothing to be done. A couple of days is OK but I thrive in a busy, fast-paced, and competitive environment. I'm not making pabida or pasikat, it's my nature. It is who I am. I never mean to offend or belittle anyone. I'm not making you look bad. It's just how I am.

I'm cold and ruthless. Well, actually, yes I am. You know that friend who you don't want to tell your problems to because she will give you the cold harsh reality check? The kind of friend who will not give you fluffy words of sugar-coated bullcrap? I'm that friend. I realize that I'm not really mean but I see the truth and dislike sugar-coating and beating around the bush. I'm not sorry I'm like this. However, I'm sorry if I offended you in any way.

Reading this you might think, she must be one unhappy overworked b*tch. I'm not. I'm really a happy person who loves babies and children. According to my Love Language profile, I express love by providing quality time and through physical touch. I love hugs and kisses! I'm not that cold.

I'm happy with myself. I actually like myself even if I'm faaaar from perfect. I understand that we are all different and unique. I hope that someday, others will understand that, too.

How about you? What is your personality type? Have you encountered any challenges because of it?

The Sunday Currently Vol. 3

When did Labor Day weekend became a party time for singles? Seriously, I'm curious.

Reading
Funny tweets of what transpired today also known as the Pacquiao-Mayweather "fight of the century". I think we shouldn't be calling it that because there were far better fights but whatever.

Writing
I SHOULD be writing my scientific poster because deadline is coming soon but it's Sunday and who wants to work on Sundays. -- I wrote this last Sunday and OMG still applies today!

Listening
Listening/watching to YouTube room tour videos because I badly want to redecorate but I don't have enough disposable money for that plus I have been too lazy lately to just even clean out my closet.

Thinking
How many Filipinos are saddened by the Pacquiao fight? How much are we really affected, like, spending habits, etc.? Because after the fight I wanted to go out and shop and/or drink beer, anything to lighten up the mood.

Smelling
Shampoo cos I just got out of the shower. Who doesn't love to sleep clean? I love it!

Wishing
For a better work week. Work has been different lately since my supervisor left and I'm basically running the show but I'm not fully qualified to fill in his shoes.

Hoping
I can accomplish everything on my to-do list. I always have one but sometimes they're too daunting.

Wearing
This very comfy boxer shorts from Bench and equally comfy cotton tank top from Hanes (from Franco's mom).

Loving
How my driving and parking skills have improved immensely but I still have a long way to go.

Wanting
A real vacation. Labor day weekend was meh because I worked and stayed home when I was not working. I want a vacation with people I like. I'm very particular with how and whom I spend my personal time.

Needing
To clean out my closet and hold a garage sale and then use the money to buy new "uniforms" or staples. I have a lot of jeans but most of them are ill-fitting. I need more plain shirts because I live in them.

Feeling
Energized because I slept the whole afternoon, had a nice shower and now having green tea after my Mom's home cooked dinner. Life is wonderful if we just appreciate the small things.

How was your long weekend?

Good luck on the coming week!

Thankful Tuesday: 04/28/2015

It's been a while since I last did a Thankful Tuesday. It hasn't been that long since I last felt thankful but I rarely have the time or energy to write about it. There are quite a lot of things I'm thankful for, actually.

My car. No, actually I'm thankful that I can now afford to buy and maintain one.
A stable and well-paying job. I dislike the #ilovemyjob hashtag very very much because who the F loves his/her job that much. I mean, really, who does? Whatever the job is, you are bound to have good, bad, and very bad days. But I'm really thankful of what I have right now because I realized that not everyone has what I have.
A happy and loving family. Sometimes I get sad thinking of that day when I get married and I don't live with my family anymore. I hug and kiss my Mom everyday and it's such a wonderful feeling.
Cheap flights. Being in a LDR is not easy but the boom of promo fares is such a big help to my relationship.
Franco. The man who has been keeping me sane and happy for ten years.

How about you? What have you been thankful for lately?

Japanese Hair Salon Experience -- Elephant Nose

Note: This was originally written on December 2014.
Warning: Photo heavy

I'm fresh off the salon chair and I want to write about it before I forget the details because it is all sorts of awesome.

I like having good-looking hair. Who doesn't, right? But I'm really a chicken in trying new styles. Basically I have two, straight long and straight bob. I usually just get my hair colored or get the color retouched and get a trim to remove the nasty split ends that never seem to go away. My hair grows pretty fast and it's hard to keep up with all that maintenance and expenses so I let it grew. For years.

I knew I was going to Japan before Christmas. I couldn't get my hair done before leaving for Japan because that is way too far from Christmas. My  hair will grow out again and will look meh during the holidays. You might ask, why do I care so much to look my best during the holidays? Well, first, it's the holidays for crying out loud! Parties and pictures every where. Second, this is the time I meet the man of my dreams. Nuks.

I decided I'll just try to find a decent hair salon in Japan. I heard it's quite expensive but from what I read, it's also worth the price. I also wanted to experience it. It's not often I'm given a chance to get my hair done outside the Philippines. So I asked a fellow foreigner, who is technically a Japanese citizen, for a recommendation. Good thing she is scheduled to visit her fave salon, Elephant Nose, which is owned by her friend. She told me we can score some discount. Sweet! I was definitely in.

Let me now share with you what happened.

We were scheduled at 10am. In Japanese hair salons, you typically have to make a reservation. Walk-ins are welcome but you are not always guaranteed you can be immediately accommodated. Surprisingly, Elephant Nose was full on a Friday morning. I thought there wouldn't be a lot of customers but it was a good sign. A lot of locals trust this salon. Good!

Once we entered, the owner/manager who also happens to be the husband of my stylist, greeted us at the door. A staff approached us and asked for our coats and bags to be put in lockers.  My friend sensed my hesitation and assured me it's safe. We were then seated at the waiting area with a big mirror in front of you and magazines to choose hairstyles from. My stylist then approached us and introduced herself. She is my friend's friend so it was easy. She was also very kind and warm. She asked me if I have a style in mind. I told her I have a couple I want to show her. She said we can discuss more on the chair. Once your stylist and the area allotted for you is ready, they will guide you there carefully. Listen, the Japanese are crazy with their service. I mean, I don't know how to properly put it but you are courteously assisted EVERY step.

While on was on my chair, the stylist then carefully assessed the situation that is my hair. She then asked for what I want. Since I couldn't speak Japanese (yet!), I had to show her a photo of what I wanted. She said the peg looks great however she thinks it's too short for me. She doesn't want to chop it all off. So she suggested that we adjust it a little bit. She also suggested we just retouch my hair color so I won't spend millions on it. But the hairstyle I wanted needed a perm, I just told her to go! Give me a digiperm. Off we go!

This was my hair peg. Coincidentally, I was wearing a similar shirt during my salon appointment.

My hair was then prepped by an assistant. They applied something to my hair prior to coloring. It was applied all through out the areas where color will be later applied.

My hairstylist then jumped in and applied the color to where they are needed, mostly the roots. It was left on for 20-30 mins then I was assisted gently like a princess to the shampoo area. Oh the shampoo. More on that later.

After shampooing my hair, my stylist then proceeded on cutting my hair. Nervousness overload! After cutting, a new assistant came over to prep my hair prior to perming. The product they put was only applied to areas where it will be permed. This was left on for 20mins.

The assistant came back with another assistant and proceeded to apply more product to the same areas. It was again left on for 20mins.

I was shampooed again. Divine!

My stylist and another assistant proceeded to perming my hair. I had two options, normal or digital perm. I chose digital since it would result to a more normal looking wave and would last longer.

I looked like a Christmas tree.

They warned me that the curls would look crazy but no need to be alarmed. After perming, they applied a product that made my crazy curls into a more relaxed beachy wave. This was a first for me.

After that, my hair was washed for the last time. I was also given a hair treatment to give shine to my hair and a head massage that I didn't want to end. Divine, I tell you!

The ceramic wash basin was heated OMG. There was a warm towel around my neck. The shampoo smelled soooo good. The water had the perfect temperature. Most of all, they massage your head and neck every time. Plus, they assist your every movement. They ask you to sit perpendicular to the chair first, then they will help you lie down, then they will put a warm towel over your legs. I swear I didn't want to leave the shampoo area!

I devoured their magazines and coffee/tea/juice service. I think I was served 4-5 times. :)

Here's how I looked in the end. We adjusted the hairstyle to match my face better and I didn't mind at all.

I spent my whole day in the salon and shelled out more money than usual but I do not regret it. In fact, I loved it! Japanese people are so kind and polite, especially the guys and girls of Elephant Nose. They were all sorts of nervous because I'm their first non-Japanese speaking customer. There are other foreigners but they all speak Japanese. Almost all the staff came by my area and greeted me in English. They even introduced themselves. If ever I'm in Morioka, Japan again, I will definitely go back there!

Ta-da! Until my next visit! ありがとう!

The Sunday Currently Vol. 2

I love Sundays because of the serenity. Everyone seems to be more mellow on this day of the week.

Reading
Blogs of some people. I unfollowed  a lot of blogs lately because they all seem so shallow to me. If the blog's purpose is to be shallow, then I need more personality from the blogger. Some thing like that

Writing
I SHOULD be writing my scientific poster because deadline is coming soon but it's Sunday and who wants to work on Sundays.

Listening
I was just listening to Nat King Cole. Something about his voice and his songs makes me feel loved.

Thinking
Of what I'm going to do this week. The kids are on their summer break and so the house feels empty. When my nieces are away, I have so much time on my hands.

Smelling
Shea butter. My soap and hand cream are of the same scent.

Wishing
I'm still in Korea with Franco. Too much alone time sucks

Hoping
My wound on my left index finger won't turn into keloid. I hurt myself last time I was in Korea. I was exiting Franco's building. I was pushing the glass door when the wind fought back and my index finger lost the battle. I was going to meet Franco for lunch and I was running late so I decided to just go to the nearest convenient store for band aids. I was running in the cold with a bloody hand. The cashier felt so bad for me, she put the band aid herself. Love trumps pain. :P

Wearing
Favorite ragged pambahay clothes

Loving
My skin lately. I don't want to jinx it!

Wanting
Ballet flats. I lack ballet flats, I can't believe it! I used to live in them and now I don't even own a pair. What happened?

Needing
Driving shoes. I never understood the importance before but I badly need one. It's not that I can't drive without it but not all shoes are comfortable to drive in. What's a good and stylish driving shoe?

Feeling
Mighty effin empowered! I can drive myself and other people around now. I don't have to bug my sister to wake up and drive for me and bring me to places. I just hope my parking skills get better soon.

Good luck on the coming week!

The Sunday Currently Vol. 1

I realized the other day that I haven't posted anything in this blog since 2015 started. I have a lot of stories, mostly mundane, but I can't find the time or the energy to write.

Since I don't want to write something very long and requires deep thinking and because I have been thinking of doing this for a while and also why not, here goes.

Reading
Rappler and CNN because I need to know what's going on around me. I'm also reading tweets of random people just because.

Writing
I'm planning my week and my Moleskine planner is currently my favorite thing in the world. I cannot leave the house without it. Planning and writing it down is so therapeutic.

Listening
Today is one of those days where our neighbors decided to never stop singing. There should be a videoke police.

Thinking
I'm doing the biggest purchase (so far) of my life next week and I'm all excited and nervous at the same time. I'm imagining how it will be like and how it would change my life. Franco is very excited, too.

Smelling
A combination of milk and cherry blossom because I just showered with a hint of white citrus due to my lotion of choice tonight and a bit of strawberry because of the Kitkat I just devoured.

Wishing
Honestly, for more money

Hoping
For things to fall in to place at work. There are so many changes going on right now.

Wearing
My favorite tank top and cotton shorts -- I wear them every week!

Loving
This hair curling essence I bought from Korea. No styling needed!

Wanting
More like lusting (still) over the Michael Kors Jet Set Macbook bag because necessities vs priorities LOL

Needing
To lose a little bit of weight or just the tummy flab before the Holy Week. A lot of people tells me I look better with a little bit of weight on but I feel heavy and sluggish already.

Feeling
Better because my sore throat is gone but irritated because my monthly visitor is here (TMI) and when on my period, everything and I mean everything annoys the hell out of me.

Good luck on the coming week!

Christmas Wish List

It's that time of the year again! It will be Christmas in 17 days! I'm so excited!

Since it's the time of giving *cough*, I'd like to help you out by providing you the list of what I want this Christmas. This will definitely make your life easier if you haven't bought a gift for me. As Sadie in Awkward would say, you're welcome.

1. Revlon ColorBust Matte Balm in Standout (no. 250) (Php 575)
Source
I tried this one time in an SM Department Store and I was really impressed with the formulation. It wasn't too drying but it was definitely matte. However, I was not really looking for a lipstick at that time so I didn't give it a second thought. Earlier today while I was looking around in this Japanese drugstore/beauty store, I tried Standout because the color looks so good from the packaging. I was so delighted! It brings out a certain glow out of me. And well, you know me, I love red lipsticks.
Only wearing eyebrow and Standout. See what I mean?

2. Posh Pocket Shoes Becca (Black) (Php 1,200)
Source
My style is very simple and shouts basic. I'm all about black, white, and gray. I've been looking for that perfect pair of sandals and this one looks so good. I love Posh Pocket Shoes because they are very comfortable and simple yet stylish. Additional points for them because all their shoes are foldable and comes with a posh bag where you can put your shoes or use separately.

3. Laptop sleeve
I'm not very specific with this one. I bought a very cheap one from CD-R King and I haven't changed since. It's not very durable and since I removed the protective case of my laptop because it looks worn out and ugly, I need a better sleeve. I'm using a 13-inch MacBook Air, FYI.

4. Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution (Php 3,000)
Source
My skin is far from prefect. I'm very prone to sunspots and freckles. I have been using sunblock everyday for almost 8 years now but I still get them. It doesn't help that my day job is to be in the rice field or be exposed to UV light of the clean bench. Having this one would help me immensely and save me from spending loads of money with the dermatologist.

5. Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Tote for MacBook (Php 14,000-19,000)
Source
I admit I'm maarte. I like carrying my laptop around because I'm more productive using it than the office computer but I don't have a proper laptop bag. I don't want to have a separate laptop bag and tote bag. That's just too much for everyday. And since I will be putting a lot of things, why not get a durable bag, right? I found this in the Apple store and I was hooked. It's Michael Kors especially made for MacBook arte users like me. It's pretty and functional. I find that the price varies depending on where you buy it and which country you get it.

That's it. Let's see if I'll get any of these. Not hoping but still keeping my finger crossed. You'll never know.

Happy Christmas shopping!

xoxo
